iPhone Accessibility Basics

Nadia Patel, Learning & Skills Coordinator at Galloways, shares two simple iPhone accessibility features that can make everyday tasks easier.

These features can help people with sight loss use their iPhone more independently. From using voice commands to magnifying the screen, there are simple settings you can explore.

1. Use Siri on your iPhone

Siri lets you make calls, send messages, set timers and ask questions using your voice.

Set up Siri in three simple steps

Step 1: Open Settings

Tap the Settings app on your iPhone. Look for the grey cog icon.

Step 2: Find Siri

In Settings, select Apple Intelligence & Siri.

Step 3: Turn on Talk to Siri

Select Talk to Siri and follow the prompts to set up your voice.

Once enabled, you can use Siri to carry out everyday tasks without needing to navigate your phone manually.

2. Use Zoom on your iPhone

Zoom is another useful iPhone accessibility feature. It magnifies your iPhone screen, making text and images easier to see.

How to turn on Zoom

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Select Accessibility.
  3. Tap Zoom.
  4. Turn Zoom on.

How to use Zoom

Once Zoom is enabled, you can control the magnification using simple gestures.

  • Double-tap with three fingers to zoom in or out.
  • Drag three fingers to move around the magnified screen.

These gestures can help you view text, images and other information more clearly.
