Galloways aim to improve accessibility as part of focus group for people with diverse needs in hospitals across areas of Sefton.

The aim for the focus group was to create a resource which had varied uses to aid in communicating effectively with people with disabilities and improve accessibility to enhance the patient experience for everybody, despite living with sight loss and other impairments.

Thus, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust launched Patient Communication Boxes, designed to support staff in communicating with patients who have diverse needs, including sensory and cognitive impairments. With input from patients, organisations like Galloways and a range of other healthcare professionals from across the trusts, these boxes are packed with resources and guidance to enhance patient care delivery.

Available across wards, emergency departments, and outpatient areas at hospitals including Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital and the Liverpool University Dental Hospital, these boxes fill crucial support gaps and improve the overall patient experience and we were delighted to have input into them!

Further to this project, the team at Galloways has also collaborated with the trust on improving navigation around St. Paul’s Eye Clinic and other hospital sites through a way finding exercise…be sure to read our update on that activity when it is live!

Could we help to improve accessibility or communication for people living with sight loss in your workplace or community group?

We are always keen to collaborate with organisations and individuals who wish to improve best practice for people with diverse needs, so please get in touch. Imagine what this could do for your CSR and diversity requirements, as well as maintaining a welcoming, inclusive environment for customers.
