Significant milestone for Galloways CIO

The 1st April represents a significant milestone in Galloways 158-year history, as the charity changes from its current legal status as an unincorporated charity to a more modern and fit for purpose, Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

Galloways (CIO) is a newly registered charity (1208307) and will take effect from the 1st April 2025. It has the same charitable purposes and will continue to deliver the same services to blind and visually impaired people.

Why you need to know:

It is important that people are aware of the change so that future donations and legacies can be linked to the new Charity Number 1208307.

If you have already left a legacy in your will, you do not need to change anything as the charity’s new status has been formally recorded on the Charity Commissions Register of Mergers.

The charity will continue to be called “Galloways” but you may notice slight changes to our letterheads and compliment slips whereby for legal reasons, the charity is described as “Galloways, a charitable incorporated organisation”.

You can read more about charity statuses and what it means to become a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) for us here.

As always, Galloways are here to answer any questions you may have about this change so please feel free to get in touch.
