Unlocking Adventure: A Life-Changing Week at Lake Coniston

In April, 28 people who are blind or partially sighted came together for an unforgettable four-day water sports and team-building excursion at Lake Coniston. With activities ranging from paddle-boarding and sailing to ghyll scrambling and kayaking, the week offered more than just adrenaline, it fostered connection, confidence, and growth.

Although the activity week is subsidised, for some, the cost can still be a barrier. Thanks to the kindness of five generous donors at our annual Ball, four fully funded places were made available for individuals who would benefit most. On top of this, another compassionate supporter has pledged to fund two places every year going forward. These incredible gifts don’t just cover participation fees, they unlock transformative experiences, helping participants build resilience, rediscover self-esteem, and forge lasting friendships in a supportive and empowering environment.

One of those funded places was awarded to David Bromilow, who had long hoped to take part in the adventure.

“Having the opportunity to attend Water Park funded is amazing,” David shared. “From hearing stories from people who had been before, it’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a while. To spend a few days doing activities I might not normally get involved in, with like-minded people, is exciting! Due to the financial cost of moving recently, I was nearly not going. The impact that this funding has made is empowering, it’s created an opportunity that may not have been there.”

David’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when generous individuals choose to give. Their support changes lives not just for a week, but for the long term.

Thank you to all our donors for making experiences like this possible.
