Nigel “Sky” Walker’s epic fall for Galloways

Fearless fundraiser Nigel Walker took to the skies earlier this month in an epic skydive, all to raise money for his local sight loss charity.
Nigel’s story
Nigel, 57, was brought up in Morecambe and attended Derby School in Preston. He was born partially sighted but in an incident during his time fostering children, he lost almost all of his remaining sight spurring on his passion to support his local sight loss charity.
“For the past 17 years, me and my wife, Penny, have fostered in total around 50 children.
Some of the children have learning difficulties and in 2018, a child was having a fight. I intervened, fell over the sofa and hit my head against a door frame. I almost lost all my sight and I suffer from bad headaches daily.”
Support from local sight loss charity, Galloways.
Nigel was supported by Galloways during his journey of adjusting to life with severe sight loss. “During my four month recuperation, I was supported by local sight loss charity, Galloways and they have done so much for me. I raised money just after my head injury and continually set targets to do all I can so that others can also receive the same support.”
“There’s lots of people out there who are visually impaired and need support. I would ask you to give serious thought to helping the charity by making a donation, setting up a regular standing order or taking part in an event.”
“They need it to help people like I needed help all those years ago.”
Taking to the skies!
Nigel’s skydive was cancelled twice last minute due to adverse weather conditions. Thankfully, it was third time lucky on 4th September, and the weather couldn’t have given him a better backdrop! Thanks to Black Cats Skydiving Centre for putting on such a great experience for Nigel and his spectators.

Ever the Galloways champion, Nigel is exploring white-knuckle challenges to raise money for us in 2025. We are so grateful to him for this. To date, he has raised around £3.5k through his skydive, topped up with GiftAid and is still encouraging people to support him!
