AJ Bell Manchester Run for Galloways

Why I’m running the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run for Galloways
When I signed up for the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run, I knew I wanted to run for a cause close to my heart. For me, that could only be Galloways.
This incredible local charity does life-changing work for people living with sight loss across the North West. For my family, it is even more personal which is why i decided to run for Galloways. Here’s why.
A Personal Connection: My Dad’s Journey with Stargardt Disease
My dad has Stargardt Disease, a rare genetic eye condition that causes a progressive loss of vision. Diagnosed as a young adult, he has lived most of his life without the visual independence many of us take for granted. Everyday activities like playing sports, hiking, or simply enjoying the outdoors became increasingly difficult.
Growing up, I saw how this condition affected him, not just physically but emotionally too. However, in the last few years, Galloways has made a huge difference in his life.
How Galloways Changed Everything
Thanks to Galloways, my dad has been able to take part in an amazing range of social and physical activities. He now enjoys weekly sessions in adapted sports like cricket, tennis, and archery. He has gone on hiking trips across the UK. Incredibly, he even spent a week kayaking and white-water rafting in the Lake District.
These experiences have transformed his confidence and had a huge impact on both his mental and physical wellbeing. He has pushed himself to try new things, things he might never have believed were possible for someone with limited vision.
Galloways is not just about activities. It is about empowerment, independence, and giving people the chance to live life fully despite sight loss.
Why I chose to run for Galloways
We are lucky that such a fantastic charity is right on our doorstep in Penwortham. But it is more than just luck. It is vital that organisations like Galloways continue to be supported, so they can help other families like ours.
That is why I am lacing up my running shoes. I want to help Galloways continue offering their incredible services, from sports and outdoor adventures to emotional support and practical advice.
Every donation, big or small, helps make a real difference.
Join Me in Supporting Galloways
If my dad’s story has inspired you, I would be so grateful for your support. Please consider donating, cheering me on during the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run, or simply sharing this post to help raise awareness.
Together, we can help Galloways empower even more people to live independently, confidently, and joyfully, no matter their level of sight.
Thank you for reading, and wish me luck!
