World Cancer Day 2025 – Alliance against Cancer

World Cancer Day 2025 is centred around the theme “United by Unique,” which emphasises the importance of recognising diversity in the fight against cancer.

Every individual has unique needs, perspectives, and stories to share. Despite these differences, we are all united by the shared goal of improving cancer awareness and care worldwide.

Macmillan Cancer Support estimates that in 2025, nearly 3.5 million people in the UK are living with cancer. They also report significant disparities in how people experience diagnosis, treatment, and care, creating an unacceptable “cancer care gap” across the UK. This gap leaves many people behind, and we believe that this must change. Better care is not only possible but essential for everyone living with cancer.

At Galloways, we are proud to contribute to this global mission with the launch of our own cancer awareness-oriented project through the Cancer Information Screening Booklet. This resource is designed to deliver cancer information in an accessible format, ensuring that everyone, including those living with sight loss, can access the knowledge they need to better manage their health.

Thanks to a generous grant from Spring North’s Cancer Grants Scheme and the invaluable input from Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS, we’ve produced this booklet in large print, with audio versions currently being developed. Soon, these resources will be available on CD and through the Cancer Awareness section of our Digital Hub, providing people with sight loss multiple ways to access this important information, tailored to their preferences.

Over the coming months, with the support of this grant, we will also host a series of cancer awareness talks and discussions. We aspire for these events to be available both in person and digitally, offering Galloways staff, service users, and volunteers the opportunity to learn more, as well as being more widely available online. These talks will also be accessible via our hub, enabling us to continue evolving and expanding cancer information for the future.

Our hope is that we can provide someone with the information to feel confident about cancer screening and be empowered to take their health and wellbeing into their own hands. United in our goals, unique in our needs.

Our thoughts are with anyone impacted by this dreadful illness, and we urge you to seek support from the appropriate networks should you need it.
