Heated Eye Masks
The heated eye mask is a very useful item for good ‘Eye Health’ care.
The mask can be used to alleviate the symptoms of Blepharitis and for Dry Eyes and will help with those dry, gritty, itchy and watery feelings you may have.
The device is simple to use and more convenient than boiling water, pouring it into a bowl and allowing it to cool. Watch our demonstration video and read on for more information and recommended products.
The heated eye mask can be purchased from various suppliers and one of the most reasonably priced options is from Asda Opticians, which is the one demonstrated in the video. It is lighter than some other manufacturers and may feel more comfortable to use. Click here to view the option from Asda and there is an image below to show the packaging of the product.

The box contains an eye mask and may also contain an individually wrapped eyelid wipe.
Instructions for use
- Take the mask out of the box and remove all the packaging, ensure that it is fully intact by feeling all the seams to ensure that there is no damage to them.
- Place on a plate or any suitable microwavable dish, put into the microwave and heat for 30 seconds (maybe slightly different for get wattage on your microwave, double-check the box for instructions).
- Once it is ready, remove from the microwave with care as it will be warm/hot to the touch.
- Go to a comfortable seat, get comfortable and place the mask across your eyelids (smoother side on your lids) and leave for two minutes (you could ask Alexa, Google Nest or Siri to set a timer for two minutes).
- Once your two minutes are up, remove the mask, place back onto the plate and use an eyelid, a clean tissue or clean face cloth to wipe away any excess fluid from your lids. You should feel an instant relief of dry eye symptoms, and itchy or gritting feelings should now feel more comfortable.
The recommendation would be to use this item twice a day, but you can use it more often. The mask will last you 6 months if you use it twice a day, so try to keep track of how often you use the device and replace it when necessary to ensure it is at its most effective. Ensure that contact lenses are always removed before use.
We would not recommend a scented eye mask as this may cause further irritation to your symptoms.
Please ensure that you seek advice from your Eye consultant, your GP or an Optician before jumping straight in to using a mask.
