Today we’re celebrating a very special milestone – James Coulton has now been part of the Galloways team for 18 years!

James is a truly dedicated and passionate member of staff who has given so much to support people living with sight loss. His commitment to breaking down barriers and encouraging others to embrace new challenges has made a lasting impact on so many.

From our ever-popular walking groups to climbing sessions, James has been at the heart of helping people stay active and connected. He’s also introduced an exciting range of accessible sports and activities including Showdown, VI Tennis, Blind Baseball, and paddleboarding – proving time and again that there are no limits to what can be achieved.

He’s played a key role in organising unforgettable experiences such as the water park residential and the Galloways driving day – both of which have created brilliant memories and new opportunities for those taking part.

James also runs our Talking News service, which has evolved significantly under his guidance and is now transitioning into a fully digital platform – helping ensure people can stay informed and included in new and accessible ways.

What makes James’s work all the more powerful is how he draws on his own lived experience to support and inspire others in such a positive and authentic way. His approach helps people feel seen, understood, and motivated to try something new.

In 2023, James raised a considerable amount of money for Galloways by taking on the incredible challenge of walking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. He says it was the most challenging experience he’s ever faced – but he did it for Galloways, and in doing so, showed everyone that with determination, you really can achieve anything.

We are incredibly lucky to have James on the team. His energy, creativity, and constant belief in what people can do continues to inspire us all.

Thank you, James, for 18 amazing years – and here’s to many more!
