What Eye Clinic Liaison Officer support can help with
An ECLO can help you understand what your diagnosis means and guide you through the next steps.
They can support you with:
- Explaining your eye condition and what it may mean for your daily life
- Providing emotional support after diagnosis
- Helping you access services and support available locally
- Advice about benefits, registration, and support services
- Referrals to rehabilitation or low vision services
- Information about equipment and practical aids
ECLOs work closely with hospital eye clinic staff to make sure you receive the right support as early as possible.
Who can access this service
The ECLO service is available to patients attending the hospital eye clinic who:
- have recently been diagnosed with a sight condition
- are experiencing changes in their vision
- need support adjusting to sight loss
- want advice about services or support available
Family members or carers may also be able to speak to the ECLO for guidance.
How to access ECLO support
If you are attending the hospital eye clinic, you can ask a member of staff to refer you to the Eye Clinic Liaison Officer.
What happens after you speak to an ECLO
After speaking with an ECLO, you may be referred to other services that can support you further, such as:
- Low Vision Clinics
- Sight Loss Advice services
- Rehabilitation support
- Local community support
The aim is to ensure you receive the help you need to remain independent and confident.
